Mikroskop (bahasa Yunani: micros = kecil dan scopein = melihat) adalah sebuah alat untuk melihat objek yang terlalu kecil untuk dilihat secara kasat mata. Mikroskop merupakan alat bantu yang dapat ditemukan hampir diseluruh laboratorium untuk dapat mengamati organisme berukuran kecil (mikroskopis). Ilmu yang mempelajari benda kecil dengan menggunakan alat ini disebut mikroskopi, dan kata mikroskopik berarti sangat kecil, tidak mudah terlihat oleh mata.

Jenis-jenis mikroskop

Jenis paling umum dari mikroskop, dan yang pertama diciptakan, adalah mikroskop optis. Mikroskop ini merupakan alat optik yang terdiri dari satu atau lebih lensa yang memproduksi gambar yang diperbesar dari sebuah benda yang ditaruh di bidang fokal dari lensa tersebut.

Berdasarkan sumber cahayanya, mikroskop dibagi menjadi dua, yaitu, mikroskop cahaya dan mikroskop elektron. Mikroskop cahaya sendiri dibagi lagi menjadi dua kelompok besar, yaitu berdasarkan kegiatan pengamatan dan kerumitan kegiatan pengamatan yang dilakukan. Berdasarkan kegiatan pengamatannya, mikroskop cahaya dibedakan menjadi mikroskop diseksi untuk mengamati bagian permukaan dan mikroskop monokuler dan binokuler untuk mengamati bagian dalam sel. Mikroskop monokuler merupakan mikroskop yang hanya memiliki 1 lensa okuler dan binokuler memiliki 2 lensa okuler. Berdasarkan kerumitan kegiatan pengamatan yang dilakukan, mikroskop dibagi menjadi 2 bagian, yaitu mikroskop sederhana (yang umumnya digunakan pelajar) dan mikroskop riset (mikroskop dark-field, fluoresens, fase kontras, Nomarski DIC, dan konfokal).

Struktur mikroskop

Ada dua bagian utama yang umumnya menyusun mikroskop, yaitu:

· Bagian optik, yang terdiri dari lensa objektif dan lensa okuler.

Seperti kita tahu, udara di sekitar penuh dengan air dalam bentuk gas atau uap air. Nah, udara dingin naik ke atas lapisan atmosfer lebih tinggi dan menyebabkan uap air mengembun. inilah proses pembentukan awan.

Partikel-partikel di atmosfer menghamburkan cahaya dari matahari, tata surya yang gelap, dan akhirnya menghasilkan warna biru pada langit. Jadi, langit berwarna biru karena faktor tersebut. Tapi tidak demikian dengan awan, ia tidak membiaskan warna biru melainkan menyebarkan semua warna cahaya sehingga akhirnya membentuk warna putih.

Asteroid

Asteroid, disebut juga planet minor atau planetoid, adalah benda berukuran lebih kecil daripada planet, tetapi lebih besar daripada meteoroid, umumnya terdapat di bagian dalam Tata Surya (lebih dalam dari orbit planet Neptunus). Asteroid berbeda dengan komet dari penampakan visualnya. Komet menampakkan koma ("ekor") sementara asteroid tidak. Istilah ini secara historis ditujukan untuk semua objek astronomis yang mengelilingi matahari dan setelah diobservasi tidak memiliki karakteristik komet aktif.

Asteroid yang pertama kali ditemukan adalah Ceres pada tahun 1801 oleh Giuseppe Piazzi dan pada awalnya dipertimbangkan sebagai planet baru. Penemuan ini diikuti dengan penemuan benda-benda lainnya yang serupa, yang dengan peralatan saat itu, terlihat sebagai titik-titik cahaya, seperti bintang, menunjukkan cakram planet dalam bentuk kecil atau tidak ada sama sekali, meskipun secara mudah dapat dibedakan dari bintang karena gerakan mereka yang terlihat. Hal ini mendorong astronom Sir William Herschel untuk mengusulkan istilah "asteroid", berasal dari bahasa Yunani, ἀστεροειδής asteroeidēs berarti 'seperti bintang, berbentuk bintang', dari bahasa Yunani Kuno, ἀστήρ astēr yang artinya 'bintang, planet'.

Metode-metode historis

Metode-metode penemuan asteroid telah berkembang secara dramatis dalam dua abad terakhir.

Pada beberapa tahun terakhir abad ke-18, Baron Franz Xaver von Zach mengorganisasi suatu kelompok terdiri atas 24 orang astronom mencari planet yang hilang pada jarak sekitar 2,8 AU dari matahari berdasarkan hukum Titius-Bode karena hukum itu juga digunakan oleh Sir William Herschel untuk menemukan planet Uranus tahun 1781. Tugas ini membutuhkan grafik langit yang ditulis tangan berisi semua bintang pada sabuk zodiak hingga batas penglihatan yang disepakati. Malam berikutnya, langit akan dipetakan lagi seperti grafik sebelumnya dan diharapkan setiap objek yang bergerak akan terlihat. Gerakan planet hilang yang dicari sekitar 30 detik busur per jam secara mudah terlihat oleh pengamat.

Sebuah asteroid yang baru ditemukan diberikan suatu penandaan sementara (contohnya 2002 AT4) terdiri atas tahun penemuan dan kode alfanumerik yang menunjukkan setengah bulanan dari penemuan dan urutan penemuan dalam setengah bulanan tersebut. Setelah orbit asteroid terkonfirmasi, asteroid tersebut diberikan angka dan kemudian dapat juga diberikan nama (contohnya 433 Eros). Konvensi penamaan formal menggunakan tanda kurung di sekitar angka (contohnya (433) Eros), tetapi tanpa tanda kurung sudah umum digunakan. Secara informal, hal yang umum juga menyebutkan nama tanpa angka, atau angka tidak lagi disebutkan setelah penyebutan pertama apabila nama asteroid disebutkan berulang-ulang.

Asteroid yang pertama ditemukan ditandai dengan simbol ikon menyerupai yang digunakan untuk menandai planet secara tradisional. Hingga tahun 1855 ada dua lusin simbol asteroid yang sering muncul dalam beragam varian.

Asteroid dalam sistem tatasurya

253 Mathilde, asteroid tipe C berukuran sekitar 50 kilometer (30 mil) melintang, dengan setengah dari ukuran itu adalah kawah-kawah. Foto diambil tahun 1997 oleh wahana NEAR Shoemaker.

Sudah sebanyak ratusan ribu asteroid di dalam tatasurya kita diketemukan dan kini penemuan baru itu rata-rata sebanyak 5000 buah per bulannya. Pada 27 Agustus 2006, dari total 339.376 planet kecil yang terdaftar, 136.563 di antaranya memiliki orbit yang cukup dikenal sehingga bisa diberi nomor resmi yang permanen. Di antara planet-planet tersebut, 13.350 memiliki nama resmi (trivia: kira-kira 650 di antara nama ini memerlukan tanda pengenal). Nomor terbawah tetapi berupa planet kecil tak bernama yaitu (3360) 1981 VA; planet kecil yang dinamai dengan nomor teratas (kecuali planet katai 136199 Eris serta 134340 Pluto), yaitu 129342 Ependes.

Kini diperkirakan bahwa asteroid yang berdiameter lebih dari 1 km dalam sistem tatasurya tatasurya berjumlah total antara 1.1 hingga 1.9 juta. Astéroid terluas dalam sistem tatasurya sebelah dalam, yaitu 1 Ceres dengan diameter 900–1000 km. Dua asteroid sabuk sistem tatasurya sebelah dalam, yaitu 2 Pallas dan 4 Vesta; keduanya memiliki diameter ~ 500 km. Vesta merupakan asteroid sabuk paling utama yang kadang-kadang terlihat oleh mata telanjang (pada beberapa kejadian yang cukup jarang, asteroid yang dekat dengan bumi dapat terlihat tanpa bantuan teknis; lihat 99942 Apophis).

Massa seluruh asteroid Sabuk Utama diperkirakan sekitar 3.0-3.6×1021 kg, atau kurang lebih 4% dari massa bulan. Dari kesemuanya ini, 1 Ceres bermassa 0.95×1021 kg, 32% dari totalnya. Kemudian asteroid terpadat, 4 Vesta (9%), 2 Pallas (7%) dan 10 Hygiea (3%), menjadikan perkiraan ini menjadi 51%; tiga seterusnya, 511 Davida (1.2%), 704 Interamnia (1.0%) dan 3 Juno (0.9%), hanya menambah 3% dari massa totalnya. Jumlah asteroid berikutnya bertambah secara eksponensial walaupun massa masing-masing turun. Dikatakan bahwa asteroid Ida juga memiliki sebuah satelit yang bernama Dactyl.
